Update from the President
On July 5th, Koro Dickinson and myself attended a dinner at Government House in Wellington with The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy — our Governor-General of New Zealand. This dinner brought together different representatives of New Zealand’s diverse communities.
Neither of us knew what to expect, but the communities there were from ours, to different cultural communities, to disabled members of our New Zealand society. There was a clear message from Dame Patsy that, in her view, there is no room for intolerance – even though certain individuals project intolerant beliefs. She highlighted the Christchurch shootings that happened on March 15th as an individual projection.
It was acknowledged that we do not live in a perfect country even though we are better than most. All peoples from age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, race or disability can be discriminated against. The dinner was held to show the New Zealand does not condone discrimination.
Behind the scenes, we are continuing to grow and maintain relationships for Rainbow Auckland throughout in the wider community. These relationships are from corporates, to government bodies and educational areas. With their help and support, we are going to be able to grow Rainbow Auckland, but also be able to offer greater content to the community of Rainbow Auckland.
If you yourself has a contact in an organisation you feel we should connect with please tell us your thoughts.
Ngā mihi,
